What is the output of the following code?

<?php
$pattern = '/[a-z]{4} /';
$string = 'Mary had a little lamb';
$matches = preg_match($pattern, $string);
print_r($matches);
?>

1
Correct: 1

Tricky question, because preg_match() returns an integer 1 if there were matches and 0 otherwise. To capture the matches, you pass a third parameter for them to be placed into. The pattern requires four lower case letters followed by a space, but doesn't anchor on to anything so "title " does match.
